Microsoft and internet explorer strategies
Recently, after Microsoft released IE10 release review, I started re-thinking about Microsoft's strategy which might end Internet Explorer.
I feel microsoft is indirectly allowing it's competitiors an edge by not providing it's latest browsers for their old operating systems. 'Allow' is not the right word... rather MS seems to be forcing users to migrate to it's competitor's browsers.
I am still using Windows Server 2003 or Vista (although I might be at fault by using an OS not officially in support by Microsoft). Now if MS does not provide latest IE for WS03, am I going to buy Win8 just for this?
I will obviously switch to Chrome or Firefox or Opera.
Later... I will get so much used to these browsers and their innovative plugins to such an extent that whenever I will move to Win8, the first thing I will do is to get these browsers on Win8 instead of using IE10 (I am now addict to Chrome).
Microsoft needs to revise it's strategy and stop hitting its products with it's strategy. (Or is it a secret Microsoft strategy to keep people away from IE so that they dont discover bugs in it which help hackers enter the system :-P)
Also if possible, Microsoft should introduce side by side existance of ie7, ie8, ie9 and ie10 just like how Dot Net 2.0 to 4.0 can exist and run side by side. It will give some web developers like me to do some compatibility tests easily on a single machine rather than running from machine to machine for a small css change.
Each IE version gives a fresh look to the same old html :-( there by giving web developers like us some work to make existing site open correctly in the new IE :-).
Whatever it be... at least after few more IE versions, the standars conforming efforts by MS will make IE and the other browsers display a site in the same way. This will be a great help to us web developers (if till that time people still keep using IE :-P).
